Narrative:

During deplaning a passenger in seat xx advised me to check the overhead bin above for a paint scraper. After the passenger deplaned, the first officer and I checked and discovered a paint scraper with blade and a small bottle of a silver colored liquid which appears to be fingernail polish. I gave the items to the gate agent who placed the items in a manila envelope and sealed the envelope. I briefed the outbound captain of our discovery. The flight originated at lga and we were the originating crew. The first flight of day security search paper was completed and in the logbook when we arrived this morning.
