Narrative:
Aircraft was being taxied, heading east, very close to taxi/ramp area. The taxiway turns slightly right, then left and continues straight. After landing, I was cleared to taxi to the ramp. I was approaching this slight turn in the taxiway, and was 'blinded' by the bright lights of a taxiing bizjet. As I watched the bizjet beginning its movement at my 2 O'clock position (he had read back his clearance) the lights and movement distraction me. I failed to notice the change of direction of the taxiway and continued straight. I felt a sharp impact and stopped, after realizing the left wingtip had impacted the edge of a hangar, on my left. I stopped my aircraft. Corrective action: do not fixate on oncoming aircraft (object). Lack of lighting did not help this situation.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: PIPER PA28 WINGTIP HITS HANGAR DURING TAXI IN DUE TO A BIZJET'S LNDG LIGHTS BLINDING AND DISTRACTING HIM FROM TXWY CURVE.
Narrative: ACFT WAS BEING TAXIED, HDG E, VERY CLOSE TO TAXI/RAMP AREA. THE TXWY TURNS SLIGHTLY R, THEN L AND CONTINUES STRAIGHT. AFTER LNDG, I WAS CLRED TO TAXI TO THE RAMP. I WAS APCHING THIS SLIGHT TURN IN THE TXWY, AND WAS 'BLINDED' BY THE BRIGHT LIGHTS OF A TAXIING BIZJET. AS I WATCHED THE BIZJET BEGINNING ITS MOVEMENT AT MY 2 O'CLOCK POS (HE HAD READ BACK HIS CLRNC) THE LIGHTS AND MOVEMENT DISTR ME. I FAILED TO NOTICE THE CHANGE OF DIRECTION OF THE TXWY AND CONTINUED STRAIGHT. I FELT A SHARP IMPACT AND STOPPED, AFTER REALIZING THE L WINGTIP HAD IMPACTED THE EDGE OF A HANGAR, ON MY L. I STOPPED MY ACFT. CORRECTIVE ACTION: DO NOT FIXATE ON ONCOMING ACFT (OBJECT). LACK OF LIGHTING DID NOT HELP THIS SIT.
