Narrative:
We were cleared to descend to FL240 when the TCASII gave a TA of 'traffic.'. I leveled off at FL253 because the traffic was straight ahead 200 ft below. ZAU gave us a right 40 degree turn and the traffic continued to remain straight ahead. We asked about the traffic and was told that it was straight ahead 4 NM. We were then told to turn to a heading of 310 degrees. Turning left to that heading, we were then cleared to grr.

Narrative: WE WERE CLRED TO DSND TO FL240 WHEN THE TCASII GAVE A TA OF 'TFC.'. I LEVELED OFF AT FL253 BECAUSE THE TFC WAS STRAIGHT AHEAD 200 FT BELOW. ZAU GAVE US A R 40 DEG TURN AND THE TFC CONTINUED TO REMAIN STRAIGHT AHEAD. WE ASKED ABOUT THE TFC AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS STRAIGHT AHEAD 4 NM. WE WERE THEN TOLD TO TURN TO A HDG OF 310 DEGS. TURNING L TO THAT HDG, WE WERE THEN CLRED TO GRR.
