Narrative:
I was advised by company that the flight I made from ZZZ to ferry an aircraft involved a missing inspection panel. I called maintenance control to ask about this and was told that the maintenance people at ZZZ did an inventory and found a wing inspection panel that was not installed on the aircraft. She also said the panel was about football size and was located on the top of the right wing near the wingtip. Both my first officer and myself performed a walkaround inspection and found no problems. It seems that this panel is impossible to see during a walkaround inspection. By the time we were in the flight deck ready to start engines, it was dark outside and so not possible to see this panel from inside the aircraft.
