Narrative:
On takeoff, gear handle would not retract past 'off.' followed QRH procedure, then landed back in pit with normal landing. Aircraft had same item written up twice before. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated this was the third report of failure of the landing gear to retract. The reporter said maintenance has not reported on the maintenance action taken and the failed component.

Title: A B737-400 IN TKOF CLB AT 600 FT DIVERTED DUE TO LNDG GEAR FAILURE TO RETRACT. THIS WAS THIRD RPT OF FAILURE TO RETRACT. CAUSE UNKNOWN.
Narrative: ON TKOF, GEAR HANDLE WOULD NOT RETRACT PAST 'OFF.' FOLLOWED QRH PROC, THEN LANDED BACK IN PIT WITH NORMAL LNDG. ACFT HAD SAME ITEM WRITTEN UP TWICE BEFORE. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED THIS WAS THE THIRD RPT OF FAILURE OF THE LNDG GEAR TO RETRACT. THE RPTR SAID MAINT HAS NOT RPTED ON THE MAINT ACTION TAKEN AND THE FAILED COMPONENT.
