Narrative:

First officer, flight attendant, and captain smelled acrid burning odor in cockpit emanating from overhead panel and possibly from gasper vents. Consulted with dispatch, declared an emergency at dispatch's urging, cabin alert given to flight attendants to review information in case situation worsened. Considered diversion to ZZZ, but it was shut down with thunderstorms and electrical outage. Continued to ZZZ1 and landed uneventfully. Per flight manual, crew donned oxygen masks. In the actual operation this became very cumbersome and distracting to cockpit communications. It was almost impossible to really understand what the other crew member was saying and ATC seemed to have a problem understanding us.
