Narrative:
Descending into tul from the west, approach control flew us through localizer for runway 36R because aircraft ahead of us overshot localizer. This created increased workload for approach control and us. Approach control gave a new heading to intercept localizer runway 36R at tul from the east. We called airport in sight and were given the visual. The only traffic pointed out was the aircraft ahead (approximately 3 mi) that overshot the localizer. We had that aircraft in sight. As we were turning on the localizer runway 36R from the east we were handed off to tower. Before our call to tower, we received an RA and showed a red target below us at 300 ft and slightly to the east the RA was instructing us to climb. Because we could not see the other aircraft, we started a climb. We called tower, informed of RA, and asked about traffic. As we started climb, RA went away. We continued visual approach to runway 36R. Tower reported a small aircraft on visual to runway 36L. After we asked for a second time about traffic on final, he stated we were 500 ft above other traffic. After flight, we discussed the incident with approach control.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: B737-800 CREW RESPONDED TO A TCASII 'CLB RA' AT 3000 FT DSNDING INTO TUL.
Narrative: DSNDING INTO TUL FROM THE W, APCH CTL FLEW US THROUGH LOC FOR RWY 36R BECAUSE ACFT AHEAD OF US OVERSHOT LOC. THIS CREATED INCREASED WORKLOAD FOR APCH CTL AND US. APCH CTL GAVE A NEW HDG TO INTERCEPT LOC RWY 36R AT TUL FROM THE E. WE CALLED ARPT IN SIGHT AND WERE GIVEN THE VISUAL. THE ONLY TFC POINTED OUT WAS THE ACFT AHEAD (APPROX 3 MI) THAT OVERSHOT THE LOC. WE HAD THAT ACFT IN SIGHT. AS WE WERE TURNING ON THE LOC RWY 36R FROM THE E WE WERE HANDED OFF TO TWR. BEFORE OUR CALL TO TWR, WE RECEIVED AN RA AND SHOWED A RED TARGET BELOW US AT 300 FT AND SLIGHTLY TO THE E THE RA WAS INSTRUCTING US TO CLB. BECAUSE WE COULD NOT SEE THE OTHER ACFT, WE STARTED A CLB. WE CALLED TWR, INFORMED OF RA, AND ASKED ABOUT TFC. AS WE STARTED CLB, RA WENT AWAY. WE CONTINUED VISUAL APCH TO RWY 36R. TWR RPTED A SMALL ACFT ON VISUAL TO RWY 36L. AFTER WE ASKED FOR A SECOND TIME ABOUT TFC ON FINAL, HE STATED WE WERE 500 FT ABOVE OTHER TFC. AFTER FLT, WE DISCUSSED THE INCIDENT WITH APCH CTL.
