Narrative:

Immediately after takeoff (following flap retraction), approximately 2000 ft AGL (VMC on top), the left engine went to idle. It did not respond to throttle. The eec (electronic engine control) had one of two channels deferred (B767-300). EICAS advisories did not correspond exactly to any checklist. We spoke to dispatch and maintenance by radio. We briefed and executed an approach and landing using single engine procedures. Declared emergency and made uneventful landing. Continued in new aircraft.
