Narrative:

Engine overboost on both engines. During takeoff roll between V1 and vr speed, I became concerned that the aircraft might not take off due to slower than normal acceleration. I advanced both throttles from takeoff EPR of 1.91 to approximately 2.00. I noticed that both of the engines N1's, egt's, and N2's were flashing. This showed overspds and overtemps. I did not notice any specific readings. After takeoff, I went to the engine overspd checklist. The checklist stated that if V1 speed exceeded 102.5 to shut the engine(south) down. I contacted company maintenance. They said to run an engine display panel check (to determine N1 and egt speed and heat and duration) after landing. The procedure is not to be accomplished in-flight. After landing, we discovered that both N1's reached a speed of 103.5. Engines should have been shut down at that speed. Since we could not determine the N1 speed in-flight, we continued to our destination. I feel that if we could have obtained this data in-flight, I would have returned to our point of departure.

Title: THE PIC OF AN MD88, SENSING LESS ACCELERATING THAN EXPECTED, OVERBOOSTS HIS ENGS JUST PRIOR TO VR AND EXPERIENCES AN OVERTEMP N1 OVERSPD DURING HIS TKOF RUN AT DCA, DC.

Narrative: ENG OVERBOOST ON BOTH ENGS. DURING TKOF ROLL BTWN V1 AND VR SPD, I BECAME CONCERNED THAT THE ACFT MIGHT NOT TAKE OFF DUE TO SLOWER THAN NORMAL ACCELERATION. I ADVANCED BOTH THROTTLES FROM TKOF EPR OF 1.91 TO APPROX 2.00. I NOTICED THAT BOTH OF THE ENGS N1'S, EGT'S, AND N2'S WERE FLASHING. THIS SHOWED OVERSPDS AND OVERTEMPS. I DID NOT NOTICE ANY SPECIFIC READINGS. AFTER TKOF, I WENT TO THE ENG OVERSPD CHKLIST. THE CHKLIST STATED THAT IF V1 SPD EXCEEDED 102.5 TO SHUT THE ENG(S) DOWN. I CONTACTED COMPANY MAINT. THEY SAID TO RUN AN ENG DISPLAY PANEL CHK (TO DETERMINE N1 AND EGT SPD AND HEAT AND DURATION) AFTER LNDG. THE PROC IS NOT TO BE ACCOMPLISHED INFLT. AFTER LNDG, WE DISCOVERED THAT BOTH N1'S REACHED A SPD OF 103.5. ENGS SHOULD HAVE BEEN SHUT DOWN AT THAT SPD. SINCE WE COULD NOT DETERMINE THE N1 SPD INFLT, WE CONTINUED TO OUR DEST. I FEEL THAT IF WE COULD HAVE OBTAINED THIS DATA INFLT, I WOULD HAVE RETURNED TO OUR POINT OF DEP.
