Narrative:
A flight from vancouver, back course, to honolulu, hi. We were cleared in vancouver, 'cleared to honolulu, vancouver 3 departure, fpr, departure on 123.3.' the flight plan from our dispatch that both the captain and myself received was for the great circle route with 'latitude and longitude' filed all the way from sedar until the maggie arrival into honolulu. We gave our initial position report at sedar in standard format to comrdo with our latitude and longitude position and times after sedar. Our next position was N4500 W12747.1. 7 mins later, we reported that position (N45 W12747.1) with our next intended position after that. Comrdo replied 'roger, and ATC needs times to zefer.' that point was not on our flight plan, so I questioned our routing. 5 mins later, we were cleared 'present position direct zefer, A331, zigie, magge 3 arrival, hnl, maintain FL400.' we were notified that ATC had 2 flight plans on file, both with A331 as the routing. We complied with ATC clearance and were no more than 5-7 mi south of A331 at our furthest point. The captain filed a irregularity report with our chief pilot, and met with our dispatch to resolve the problem. Factors: we discovered a different flight plan in our folder after the rerte. Both the captain and myself had 2 separate flight plans, but it is it is common to have a copy of our original flight plan with the top copy. It is also common to be filed the 'great circle route' on this flight as opposed to A331. Our brief with dispatch prior to the flight did not cover the exact routing so we did not discover the second flight plan. Our clearance with vancouver gave no details on our filed route. The flight was uneventful besides this.

Title: A B737-700 FLC FINDS THAT THEY ARE FLYING THE WRONG RTE TOWARDS HNL AFTER MAKING 2 POS RPTS OUT OF CYVR, BC.
Narrative: A FLT FROM VANCOUVER, BC, TO HONOLULU, HI. WE WERE CLRED IN VANCOUVER, 'CLRED TO HONOLULU, VANCOUVER 3 DEP, FPR, DEP ON 123.3.' THE FLT PLAN FROM OUR DISPATCH THAT BOTH THE CAPT AND MYSELF RECEIVED WAS FOR THE GREAT CIRCLE RTE WITH 'LATITUDE AND LONGITUDE' FILED ALL THE WAY FROM SEDAR UNTIL THE MAGGIE ARR INTO HONOLULU. WE GAVE OUR INITIAL POS RPT AT SEDAR IN STANDARD FORMAT TO COMRDO WITH OUR LATITUDE AND LONGITUDE POS AND TIMES AFTER SEDAR. OUR NEXT POS WAS N4500 W12747.1. 7 MINS LATER, WE RPTED THAT POS (N45 W12747.1) WITH OUR NEXT INTENDED POS AFTER THAT. COMRDO REPLIED 'ROGER, AND ATC NEEDS TIMES TO ZEFER.' THAT POINT WAS NOT ON OUR FLT PLAN, SO I QUESTIONED OUR ROUTING. 5 MINS LATER, WE WERE CLRED 'PRESENT POS DIRECT ZEFER, A331, ZIGIE, MAGGE 3 ARR, HNL, MAINTAIN FL400.' WE WERE NOTIFIED THAT ATC HAD 2 FLT PLANS ON FILE, BOTH WITH A331 AS THE ROUTING. WE COMPLIED WITH ATC CLRNC AND WERE NO MORE THAN 5-7 MI S OF A331 AT OUR FURTHEST POINT. THE CAPT FILED A IRREGULARITY RPT WITH OUR CHIEF PLT, AND MET WITH OUR DISPATCH TO RESOLVE THE PROB. FACTORS: WE DISCOVERED A DIFFERENT FLT PLAN IN OUR FOLDER AFTER THE RERTE. BOTH THE CAPT AND MYSELF HAD 2 SEPARATE FLT PLANS, BUT IT IS IT IS COMMON TO HAVE A COPY OF OUR ORIGINAL FLT PLAN WITH THE TOP COPY. IT IS ALSO COMMON TO BE FILED THE 'GREAT CIRCLE RTE' ON THIS FLT AS OPPOSED TO A331. OUR BRIEF WITH DISPATCH PRIOR TO THE FLT DID NOT COVER THE EXACT ROUTING SO WE DID NOT DISCOVER THE SECOND FLT PLAN. OUR CLRNC WITH VANCOUVER GAVE NO DETAILS ON OUR FILED RTE. THE FLT WAS UNEVENTFUL BESIDES THIS.
