Narrative:
My aircraft (in sight of control tower) was cleared for takeoff from the intersection of txwys J and K adjacent to the landing runway 1. From our position, view of aircraft on final was blocked by a hangar facility. We were told to avoid getting too close to taxiway J as there was construction in progress and our rotor wash would create a major dust cloud, therefore, our view of the final was blocked. Procedures are to cross runway 1/19 eastbound unless otherwise instructed. We were cleared for takeoff with no alternate departure instructions and no advisories as to aircraft on final. As we lifted and proceeded eastbound, I noticed an aircraft on short final and immediately turned south to avoid. Had my attention been directed inside the cockpit to scan for power settings and temperature readings during takeoff, the end result would have been catastrophic, as it might have been if the aircraft on final had been a gulfstream or larger aircraft. If the controller had issued a takeoff clearance with reference to perhaps 'depart or cross behind landing traffic,' this situation could have been avoided.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: NMAC BTWN A DEPARTING SK76 AND A LNDG C172 ON RWY 1 AT TEB, NJ.
Narrative: MY ACFT (IN SIGHT OF CTL TWR) WAS CLRED FOR TKOF FROM THE INTXN OF TXWYS J AND K ADJACENT TO THE LNDG RWY 1. FROM OUR POS, VIEW OF ACFT ON FINAL WAS BLOCKED BY A HANGAR FACILITY. WE WERE TOLD TO AVOID GETTING TOO CLOSE TO TXWY J AS THERE WAS CONSTRUCTION IN PROGRESS AND OUR ROTOR WASH WOULD CREATE A MAJOR DUST CLOUD, THEREFORE, OUR VIEW OF THE FINAL WAS BLOCKED. PROCS ARE TO CROSS RWY 1/19 EBOUND UNLESS OTHERWISE INSTRUCTED. WE WERE CLRED FOR TKOF WITH NO ALTERNATE DEP INSTRUCTIONS AND NO ADVISORIES AS TO ACFT ON FINAL. AS WE LIFTED AND PROCEEDED EBOUND, I NOTICED AN ACFT ON SHORT FINAL AND IMMEDIATELY TURNED S TO AVOID. HAD MY ATTN BEEN DIRECTED INSIDE THE COCKPIT TO SCAN FOR PWR SETTINGS AND TEMP READINGS DURING TKOF, THE END RESULT WOULD HAVE BEEN CATASTROPHIC, AS IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN IF THE ACFT ON FINAL HAD BEEN A GULFSTREAM OR LARGER ACFT. IF THE CTLR HAD ISSUED A TKOF CLRNC WITH REF TO PERHAPS 'DEPART OR CROSS BEHIND LNDG TFC,' THIS SIT COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED.
