Narrative:
First flight of day. During taxi checklist, elevator control jammed in forward control position. Returned to gate. This checklist is part of the first officer's 'flow.' we were not rushed in completing the checklist. The first officer did an excellent job of promptly bringing this problem to my attention. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated the maintenance action to correct the elevator control jammed forward is unknown as maintenance did not advise the crew of the fix. The reporter said the controls were still jammed on return to the gate and discussion with maintenance was limited as we were assigned to another airplane. The reporter stated the airplane was an overnight layover and had some air conditioning work accomplished. The reporter said the airplane was not subjected to heavy rain or low temperatures.
