Narrative:
Aircraft #1 was level at FL230. I received the handoff on aircraft #2 which was to be descending to FL240. I told the sector above me that I would be leaving aircraft #2 at FL240 for a few moments because of my FL230 traffic. When aircraft #2 checked on frequency, he reported level at FL270 with FL240 in the data block. I called the high altitude controller to inform him of the situation and that I would be starting aircraft #2 down to FL240. I then inadvertently issued FL230 to aircraft 2 by mistake. Later on, I noticed the mode C on aircraft #2 as reading FL238 and I told him to maintain FL240. He responded that he was 'leveling at FL230, last cleared' as he passed a couple of mi to the left of aircraft #1.

Title: ZID ARTCC RADAR CTLR MISSPOKE AND INSTRUCTED A B72Q TO DSND TO AN OCCUPIED ALT RESULTING IN A CONFLICT.
Narrative: ACFT #1 WAS LEVEL AT FL230. I RECEIVED THE HDOF ON ACFT #2 WHICH WAS TO BE DSNDING TO FL240. I TOLD THE SECTOR ABOVE ME THAT I WOULD BE LEAVING ACFT #2 AT FL240 FOR A FEW MOMENTS BECAUSE OF MY FL230 TFC. WHEN ACFT #2 CHKED ON FREQ, HE RPTED LEVEL AT FL270 WITH FL240 IN THE DATA BLOCK. I CALLED THE HIGH ALT CTLR TO INFORM HIM OF THE SIT AND THAT I WOULD BE STARTING ACFT #2 DOWN TO FL240. I THEN INADVERTENTLY ISSUED FL230 TO ACFT 2 BY MISTAKE. LATER ON, I NOTICED THE MODE C ON ACFT #2 AS READING FL238 AND I TOLD HIM TO MAINTAIN FL240. HE RESPONDED THAT HE WAS 'LEVELING AT FL230, LAST CLRED' AS HE PASSED A COUPLE OF MI TO THE L OF ACFT #1.
