Narrative:
TCASII alert on final approach jfk ILS runway 31R. I was the PF on ILS runway 31R localizer at 2000 ft MSL. Prior to GS intercept, we were advised by approach control that there would be light aircraft traffic passing from right to left at 2500 ft MSL. We first saw the traffic on TCASII and then acquired the single engine visually. TCASII had his altitude at 2300 ft MSL. As we closed in on the traffic, TCASII commanded 'monitor vertical speed.' a red trapezoid from the top of the primary flight display was also presented. No action was taken by the PF. The flight ended uneventfully with a full stop landing. Had we not been able to acquire the traffic visually, there would have been great concern for potential disaster. Jfk may want to rethink having traffic flying so near final approach.

Title: B777-200 CREW AND A LIGHT ACFT HAD A TCASII RA WHILE ON FINAL TO RWY 31R AT JFK.
Narrative: TCASII ALERT ON FINAL APCH JFK ILS RWY 31R. I WAS THE PF ON ILS RWY 31R LOC AT 2000 FT MSL. PRIOR TO GS INTERCEPT, WE WERE ADVISED BY APCH CTL THAT THERE WOULD BE LIGHT ACFT TFC PASSING FROM R TO L AT 2500 FT MSL. WE FIRST SAW THE TFC ON TCASII AND THEN ACQUIRED THE SINGLE ENG VISUALLY. TCASII HAD HIS ALT AT 2300 FT MSL. AS WE CLOSED IN ON THE TFC, TCASII COMMANDED 'MONITOR VERT SPD.' A RED TRAPEZOID FROM THE TOP OF THE PRIMARY FLT DISPLAY WAS ALSO PRESENTED. NO ACTION WAS TAKEN BY THE PF. THE FLT ENDED UNEVENTFULLY WITH A FULL STOP LNDG. HAD WE NOT BEEN ABLE TO ACQUIRE THE TFC VISUALLY, THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN GREAT CONCERN FOR POTENTIAL DISASTER. JFK MAY WANT TO RETHINK HAVING TFC FLYING SO NEAR FINAL APCH.
