Narrative:
Runway incursion of runway 21 in chs. First officer and myself heard taxi via taxiway a and hold short of runway 15, which was done. When cleared to cross, we heard taxi to runway 15, which meant crossing runway 21. Our weight and balance numbers showed runway 15. We saw a helicopter on ILS to runway 21. He passed and we crossed runway 21. Ground caught us and we professed our confusion. WX was VMC. We looked both ways and there were no traffic conflicts. We continued to runway 15. ATC said, 'we need not call them and the issue is over.' contributing factors: captain, last leg of 4 day and 12 hour day. First officer, new to aircraft, about to be furloughed (again) with a disastrous pension implication. Mind was wandering and under stress.
