Narrative:
Downwind from dietz to dfw runway 17C approach, declared emergency due to sudden indication of 2600 pounds in left main fuel tank and 800 pounds on right tank. Indications were associated with 'asymmetrical fuel warning' on MFDU. I had checked the fuel about 10 mins earlier and everything was normal. About 1 min later we saw 600 pounds on the right tank and then 400 pounds. I declared an emergency and we used xfeed to fly the approach and land. I thought the engine was going to fail during the approach. Upon landing all the gauges suddenly indicated 2500 pounds on each tank. Maintenance stated that this was due to water in the fuel tanks.
