Narrative:
The ramp markings between terminals at cvg are poorly marked. Entrances to the ramp are improperly signed at spots 8 north/south and 4 north/south and 3 G/F. The expanded graphic on page 10-9C is inaccurate as well. Ramp control uses the terms 'north line' and 'south line'. Neither of these are marked on that page, nor labeled on the ground. The depiction does not show a small island between spots 8N and 8S, nor 4N or 4S. All of this causes a pilot who has not been here before a lot of confusion and will someday cause an unsafe situation on a bad WX day. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: a conversation with reporter revealed that, for a crew not familiar with cvg, navigating the txwys and ramp area can be a bit confusing. Reiterating, ATC's reference to the 'north line' and 'south line' which could not be found on the commercial chart added to the confusion. Certain other chart discrepancies involving hold spots and ramp islands were again noted.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A B737-300 FO EXPRESSES HIS CONCERN OVER WHAT HE DESCRIBES AS A POORLY MARKED AND SIGNED RAMP AND AN AERO CHART THAT DOES NOT ACCURATELY DEPICT THE RAMP WITH REGARD TO ISLANDS AND HOLD SPOTS.
Narrative: THE RAMP MARKINGS BTWN TERMINALS AT CVG ARE POORLY MARKED. ENTRANCES TO THE RAMP ARE IMPROPERLY SIGNED AT SPOTS 8 N/S AND 4 N/S AND 3 G/F. THE EXPANDED GRAPHIC ON PAGE 10-9C IS INACCURATE AS WELL. RAMP CTL USES THE TERMS 'NORTH LINE' AND 'SOUTH LINE'. NEITHER OF THESE ARE MARKED ON THAT PAGE, NOR LABELED ON THE GND. THE DEPICTION DOES NOT SHOW A SMALL ISLAND BTWN SPOTS 8N AND 8S, NOR 4N OR 4S. ALL OF THIS CAUSES A PLT WHO HAS NOT BEEN HERE BEFORE A LOT OF CONFUSION AND WILL SOMEDAY CAUSE AN UNSAFE SIT ON A BAD WX DAY. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: A CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THAT, FOR A CREW NOT FAMILIAR WITH CVG, NAVIGATING THE TXWYS AND RAMP AREA CAN BE A BIT CONFUSING.
