Narrative:
After accomplishing the 'a' check, we worked on rmr item identify #xxxxxx. We removed and replaced captain's seat as per maintenance manual 25-11-01-4. We complied with all the steps from the maintenance manual and on the operations check found the seat received from stock was inoperative. We continued deferral due to the inoperative electrical function in the vertical mode. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated the seat was replaced and checking the seat operation per the maintenance manual it was discovered the vertical mode was inoperative. The reporter said the seat was sent into ZZZ from another station with a svcable parts tag. The reporter stated the reason the as soon as possible reports were submitted was a company investigation was initiated to determine how a svcable parts tag was attached to a defective seat.
