Narrative:

In-flight engine failure. Left engine loss of all engine oil quantity and oil pressure followed by engine failure. Declared emergency. Diverted to nearest suitable airport (msy). Accomplished engine fire severe damage separation checklist. Briefed flight attendants. PA to passenger informing them of diversion and reason. Accomplished related checklists and prepared for normal 1-ENG landing. Crash fire rescue equipment requested. Captain landed safely msy runway 28. Crash fire rescue equipment examined aircraft exterior after landing. Found left engine wet with oil, but fully contained. Safe for taxi to gate. Deplaned passenger by jetbridge. Failure occurred in cruise at FL370. 26 mid to land. Excellent performance by first officer. Flight attendants remained calm throughout and were kept fully informed and reviewed emergency landing procedures and were briefed for a normal 1-ENG landing with no evacuate/evacuation anticipated. Flight attendant and cockpit crew consensus was that this emergency diversion went very smoothly and professionally. Passenger remained calm and cooperative.
