Narrative:
Distraction by alternator light, failed egt indication and a blocked static air system. Aircraft just out of shop for repairs and static system check. Climbed above assigned altitude of 2000 ft by approximately 400 ft. Corrected altitude without any known traffic conflict. Continued flight without problem. On landing, found tape over static port!
