Narrative:
Engine failure. About 5 mins after reaching cruise, generator #2 tripped but reset normally. Shortly thereafter, noticed engine #2 indications were fluctuating slightly with N2 +/-3%. Began descent into dca. About 60 NM west of aml, generator #2 tripped again. Turned it off. About 4 mins later, engine began surging noticeably yawing the aircraft slightly. Pulled right throttle back slightly and engine fail warning came up on MFDU. N2 was reading zero on primary and secondary indications. Engine shutdown procedures were followed. Diverted to iad uneventfully.
