Narrative:

Observed 'rudder travel limit 2' fault during preflight. Called ZZZ maintenance. They failed to correct problem and said they would defer it. Mechanic brought new mrd and MEL placard to aircraft. He placed orange sticker on aircraft and gave paperwork to captain, which he placed in logbook. After departure maintenance ACARS a message to state that they showed rudder travel as fault but rudder trim as deferral. The mrd showed rudder travel as fault and, in corrective action, showed rudder travel deferred. MEL card was for rudder trim. Maintenance sent a rudder travel MEL card for reference.
