Narrative:

I entered the traffic pattern at sgj for a landing on runway 31. I made a number of 'position calls,' but didn't hear any from the other airplane I had in sight. I fell in behind him and made a normal landing (touch-and-go). On climb out, I got a call from someone who idented himself as 'st augustine tower.' I quickly realized that sgj had become a class D airport since the last time I had been there. I had missed it on the sectional. I called the tower on the correct frequency and apologized. At no time was there any danger since I had all traffic in sight, but I must have caused additional workload for the tower. He cleared me for 2 more practice lndgs, and then I departed. Lesson learned: review all pertinent information even when flying to familiar airports.

Title: GRUNMAN AA5B PLT LANDS AT A TWR CTLED ARPT WITHOUT CLRNC.

Narrative: I ENTERED THE TFC PATTERN AT SGJ FOR A LNDG ON RWY 31. I MADE A NUMBER OF 'POS CALLS,' BUT DIDN'T HEAR ANY FROM THE OTHER AIRPLANE I HAD IN SIGHT. I FELL IN BEHIND HIM AND MADE A NORMAL LNDG (TOUCH-AND-GO). ON CLBOUT, I GOT A CALL FROM SOMEONE WHO IDENTED HIMSELF AS 'ST AUGUSTINE TWR.' I QUICKLY REALIZED THAT SGJ HAD BECOME A CLASS D ARPT SINCE THE LAST TIME I HAD BEEN THERE. I HAD MISSED IT ON THE SECTIONAL. I CALLED THE TWR ON THE CORRECT FREQ AND APOLOGIZED. AT NO TIME WAS THERE ANY DANGER SINCE I HAD ALL TFC IN SIGHT, BUT I MUST HAVE CAUSED ADDITIONAL WORKLOAD FOR THE TWR. HE CLRED ME FOR 2 MORE PRACTICE LNDGS, AND THEN I DEPARTED. LESSON LEARNED: REVIEW ALL PERTINENT INFO EVEN WHEN FLYING TO FAMILIAR ARPTS.
