Narrative:

Our operations manual prohibits lahso operations. I don't accept clrncs to land and hold short of another runway. Passive lahso was a gray area up until recently. Ord ATIS stated that aircraft unable/unwilling to participate in lahso should notify approach as such on initial contact. Does this mean all aircraft? Does this mean air carrier aircraft without a 'LOA' permitting lahso? To what degree, if any, is any controling authority/authorized familiar/aware of restrs per operations specifications? Does a lahso restr include both active and passive participation? On a beautiful, clear night, we were cleared for a visual approach to runway 27R at O'hare. Contacting tower near the FAF, we were cleared to land, and told that traffic landing on runway 22R would hold short of our runway. Based on excellent prevailing conditions and not being asked to hold short of any runway, I accepted the clearance to land. We landed, and turned off short of runway 22R anyway, and the orderly chaos that is O'hare on a busy evening continued without pause. Upon asking for clarification on this issue from our resident lahso 'guru,' she informed me (to paraphrase): 'any lahso is bad lahso.' starting today, I will inform atl on initial contact we are unable to accept any form of lahso, and decline any subsequent clearance containing the words '...land and hold short.'

Title: LAHSO PROCS QUESTIONED BY AN ACR PLT ARRIVING ON RWY 27R AT ORD, IL.

Narrative: OUR OPS MANUAL PROHIBITS LAHSO OPS. I DON'T ACCEPT CLRNCS TO LAND AND HOLD SHORT OF ANOTHER RWY. PASSIVE LAHSO WAS A GRAY AREA UP UNTIL RECENTLY. ORD ATIS STATED THAT ACFT UNABLE/UNWILLING TO PARTICIPATE IN LAHSO SHOULD NOTIFY APCH AS SUCH ON INITIAL CONTACT. DOES THIS MEAN ALL ACFT? DOES THIS MEAN ACR ACFT WITHOUT A 'LOA' PERMITTING LAHSO? TO WHAT DEGREE, IF ANY, IS ANY CTLING AUTH FAMILIAR/AWARE OF RESTRS PER OPS SPECS? DOES A LAHSO RESTR INCLUDE BOTH ACTIVE AND PASSIVE PARTICIPATION? ON A BEAUTIFUL, CLR NIGHT, WE WERE CLRED FOR A VISUAL APCH TO RWY 27R AT O'HARE. CONTACTING TWR NEAR THE FAF, WE WERE CLRED TO LAND, AND TOLD THAT TFC LNDG ON RWY 22R WOULD HOLD SHORT OF OUR RWY. BASED ON EXCELLENT PREVAILING CONDITIONS AND NOT BEING ASKED TO HOLD SHORT OF ANY RWY, I ACCEPTED THE CLRNC TO LAND. WE LANDED, AND TURNED OFF SHORT OF RWY 22R ANYWAY, AND THE ORDERLY CHAOS THAT IS O'HARE ON A BUSY EVENING CONTINUED WITHOUT PAUSE. UPON ASKING FOR CLARIFICATION ON THIS ISSUE FROM OUR RESIDENT LAHSO 'GURU,' SHE INFORMED ME (TO PARAPHRASE): 'ANY LAHSO IS BAD LAHSO.' STARTING TODAY, I WILL INFORM ATL ON INITIAL CONTACT WE ARE UNABLE TO ACCEPT ANY FORM OF LAHSO, AND DECLINE ANY SUBSEQUENT CLRNC CONTAINING THE WORDS '...LAND AND HOLD SHORT.'
