Narrative:
Aircraft experienced 2 consecutive hung starts. PIC made write-up in aircraft logbook (#1 engine would not accelerate above 34% N1). Chief pilot insisted on third attempt at start. #1 engine started on third attempt. Maintenance control advised PIC to enter in corrective action of aircraft logbook (third attempt operations checked good). As a result of this maintenance signoff, aircraft flew 2 legs with illegal sign-off.
