Narrative:
During final approach to lan, the nose landing gear failed to extend. Used air carrier's cockpit operating manual procedures to alternately extend nose landing gear. Upon successful extension of gear, returned to originating airport and performed normal approach and landing. Possible cause of problem is malfunctioning landing gear hydraulic solenoid mechanism. Nose gear extended manually.
