Narrative:

We executed a go around on short final, due to a falcon 50 still on the runway. Go around was performed on our own decision, not from tower. On climb out I asked if he wanted us left or right traffic. He first said left, then right, heading 280 degrees and 2500 ft MSL, which I read back. Upon leveling at 2500 ft, tower asked why we were at that altitude. Which I replied that's what tower said and what I read back. He then lowered us to 1500 ft and handed us off to new york. No calls to or from tower regarding incident upon landing.
