Narrative:
Climbing through FL280, ECAM engine page indicated oil advisory high temperature. #1 engine oil temperature 140 degrees, all other engine parameters normal. Referenced our QRH and started timing 20 mins while monitoring engine parameters. At leveloff at FL330, oil temperature began increasing. Increased thrust attempting to decrease oil temperature, but it continued to climb, turning amber and then red until it reached 165 degrees, shut down #1 engine and diverted to bhm. Declared an emergency, landed safely at bhm.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A310 CREW HAD AN ENG OIL OVER TEMP AND WAS REQUIRED TO SHUT DOWN #1 ENG.
Narrative: CLBING THROUGH FL280, ECAM ENG PAGE INDICATED OIL ADVISORY HIGH TEMP. #1 ENG OIL TEMP 140 DEGS, ALL OTHER ENG PARAMETERS NORMAL. REFED OUR QRH AND STARTED TIMING 20 MINS WHILE MONITORING ENG PARAMETERS. AT LEVELOFF AT FL330, OIL TEMP BEGAN INCREASING. INCREASED THRUST ATTEMPTING TO DECREASE OIL TEMP, BUT IT CONTINUED TO CLB, TURNING AMBER AND THEN RED UNTIL IT REACHED 165 DEGS, SHUT DOWN #1 ENG AND DIVERTED TO BHM. DECLARED AN EMER, LANDED SAFELY AT BHM.
