Narrative:
Guideman gave signal to stop aircraft a little late resulting in aircraft being stopped a couple of ft too far forward. Parking brakes were set and engines were shut down. Signal from guideman indicated that we needed to be pushed back some. Shortly after observing the release brake signal, the aircraft began rolling backward and immediately a man on a headset said 'sir, sir, sir' several times. Seeing a hand signal to stop, I applied the toe brakes with no effect. The parking brake was immediately reset with a minor jolt. No cabin or ground personnel injuries observed or reported. By all indications, the tow bar was apparently not secure in place before the release brake signal was given. In the future, I will wait for headset communication to avoid any confusion -- especially in a foreign country.
