Narrative:
This airport is my home base and I have used it frequently over the past 20+ yrs. My initial contact with pompano beach tower was made at approximately 11 mi out, northwest. Tower advised l-hand approach for runway 6. Proceeding at 800 ft altitude, I was notified that I was #2 to land, following traffic on a r-hand approach. On base leg, I advised the tower that I did not have my traffic. As I proceeded to the area abeam runway 6, I again called and said, 'I do not have my traffic.' suddenly, I noticed my traffic about 300 ft beneath me on a heading directly opposite mine and passing under me. The tower advised that I do an immediate right 360 degree turn. I maintained 800 ft altitude during this procedure and rolled out on my final approach heading, higher than usual, but at the same time very thankful. As to the cause, since I reported twice that I do not have my traffic, I honestly believe the tower was unaware of the proximity of the 2 planes.

Title: AN M7 PLT RPTED AN NMAC WITH A COMMANCHE WHILE ON FINAL TO RWY 6 AT PMP.
Narrative: THIS ARPT IS MY HOME BASE AND I HAVE USED IT FREQUENTLY OVER THE PAST 20+ YRS. MY INITIAL CONTACT WITH POMPANO BEACH TWR WAS MADE AT APPROX 11 MI OUT, NW. TWR ADVISED L-HAND APCH FOR RWY 6. PROCEEDING AT 800 FT ALT, I WAS NOTIFIED THAT I WAS #2 TO LAND, FOLLOWING TFC ON A R-HAND APCH. ON BASE LEG, I ADVISED THE TWR THAT I DID NOT HAVE MY TFC. AS I PROCEEDED TO THE AREA ABEAM RWY 6, I AGAIN CALLED AND SAID, 'I DO NOT HAVE MY TFC.' SUDDENLY, I NOTICED MY TFC ABOUT 300 FT BENEATH ME ON A HDG DIRECTLY OPPOSITE MINE AND PASSING UNDER ME. THE TWR ADVISED THAT I DO AN IMMEDIATE R 360 DEG TURN. I MAINTAINED 800 FT ALT DURING THIS PROC AND ROLLED OUT ON MY FINAL APCH HDG, HIGHER THAN USUAL, BUT AT THE SAME TIME VERY THANKFUL. AS TO THE CAUSE, SINCE I RPTED TWICE THAT I DO NOT HAVE MY TFC, I HONESTLY BELIEVE THE TWR WAS UNAWARE OF THE PROX OF THE 2 PLANES.
