Narrative:
Executing GPS approach runway 14 at dts. Passed ilope at published altitude, next fix nozec, dts airport the fix after that. Between ilope and nozec, descent authority/authorized to 1600 ft MSL. However, I began descending to MDA, having misinterpreted display on GPS screen. This was brought to my attention by copilot, at which time I elected to execute a missed approach. MDA was approximately 600-700 ft MSL. Unsure how far I descended below the authority/authorized 1600 ft MSL -- believe it to be down to approximately 900 ft MSL. ATC facility was eglin AFB approach. Requested and received another approach to airport. Since then, I have studied and practiced with the GPS unit and become more proficient.

Narrative: EXECUTING GPS APCH RWY 14 AT DTS. PASSED ILOPE AT PUBLISHED ALT, NEXT FIX NOZEC, DTS ARPT THE FIX AFTER THAT. BTWN ILOPE AND NOZEC, DSCNT AUTH TO 1600 FT MSL. HOWEVER, I BEGAN DSNDING TO MDA, HAVING MISINTERPRETED DISPLAY ON GPS SCREEN. THIS WAS BROUGHT TO MY ATTN BY COPLT, AT WHICH TIME I ELECTED TO EXECUTE A MISSED APCH. MDA WAS APPROX 600-700 FT MSL. UNSURE HOW FAR I DSNDED BELOW THE AUTH 1600 FT MSL -- BELIEVE IT TO BE DOWN TO APPROX 900 FT MSL. ATC FACILITY WAS EGLIN AFB APCH. REQUESTED AND RECEIVED ANOTHER APCH TO ARPT. SINCE THEN, I HAVE STUDIED AND PRACTICED WITH THE GPS UNIT AND BECOME MORE PROFICIENT.
