Narrative:
After a normal approach and landing to ril runway 26, the aircraft slid off the end of the runway. On final, the braking action was reported as 'mu 35-45' (poor to fair). Actual braking action was nil. No apparent damage to aircraft. Since the airport was uncontrolled and had not been shut down, we elected to move the plane off the dirt to clear the centerline in case another aircraft attempted to land. This incident serves to re-emphasize the need to exercise extreme caution on landing in mountainous/cold WX airports and the need to be skeptical of any information. Supplemental information from acn 570339: normal touchdown and brake application. Report of mu 35-45, actual mu 15-20.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A GLF4 CREW RPTED THAT THE RWY BRAKING ACTION RPTED FOR RIL, CO, WAS INACCURATE, CAUSING THEM TO DEPART RWY 26.
Narrative: AFTER A NORMAL APCH AND LNDG TO RIL RWY 26, THE ACFT SLID OFF THE END OF THE RWY. ON FINAL, THE BRAKING ACTION WAS RPTED AS 'MU 35-45' (POOR TO FAIR). ACTUAL BRAKING ACTION WAS NIL. NO APPARENT DAMAGE TO ACFT. SINCE THE ARPT WAS UNCTLED AND HAD NOT BEEN SHUT DOWN, WE ELECTED TO MOVE THE PLANE OFF THE DIRT TO CLR THE CTRLINE IN CASE ANOTHER ACFT ATTEMPTED TO LAND. THIS INCIDENT SERVES TO RE-EMPHASIZE THE NEED TO EXERCISE EXTREME CAUTION ON LNDG IN MOUNTAINOUS/COLD WX ARPTS AND THE NEED TO BE SKEPTICAL OF ANY INFO. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 570339: NORMAL TOUCHDOWN AND BRAKE APPLICATION. RPT OF MU 35-45, ACTUAL MU 15-20.
