Narrative:
Prior to landing at lit, I tuned ATIS into my radio and received the information. ATIS information stated that the first 1200 ft of runway 36 was closed. Information also stated that taxiway a, south of taxiway left was also closed. I was cleared to land on runway 36 by adams tower, however, I was not informed of where the opened portion of the runway began. I landed on runway 36, past the barriers at the beginning of the runway and exited on taxiway left. After landing, I was informed that I had landed on a closed portion of runway 36. I asked the tower controller where the beginning of the runway was supposed to begin, and was informed that it was marked by a white panel on either side of the runway a few ft north of taxiway left. I was unaware of that kind of marking system, so I informed the controller that I had assumed the closed portion of the runway was indicated by the barriers at the approach end, and I apologized for any inconvenience. There was no further discussion of the matter.

Title: A C172 PLT IS CONFUSED ABOUT THE MARKINGS ON A PARTIALLY CLOSED RWY AND LAND IN THE CLOSED PORTION.
Narrative: PRIOR TO LNDG AT LIT, I TUNED ATIS INTO MY RADIO AND RECEIVED THE INFO. ATIS INFO STATED THAT THE FIRST 1200 FT OF RWY 36 WAS CLOSED. INFO ALSO STATED THAT TXWY A, S OF TXWY L WAS ALSO CLOSED. I WAS CLRED TO LAND ON RWY 36 BY ADAMS TWR, HOWEVER, I WAS NOT INFORMED OF WHERE THE OPENED PORTION OF THE RWY BEGAN. I LANDED ON RWY 36, PAST THE BARRIERS AT THE BEGINNING OF THE RWY AND EXITED ON TXWY L. AFTER LNDG, I WAS INFORMED THAT I HAD LANDED ON A CLOSED PORTION OF RWY 36. I ASKED THE TWR CTLR WHERE THE BEGINNING OF THE RWY WAS SUPPOSED TO BEGIN, AND WAS INFORMED THAT IT WAS MARKED BY A WHITE PANEL ON EITHER SIDE OF THE RWY A FEW FT N OF TXWY L. I WAS UNAWARE OF THAT KIND OF MARKING SYS, SO I INFORMED THE CTLR THAT I HAD ASSUMED THE CLOSED PORTION OF THE RWY WAS INDICATED BY THE BARRIERS AT THE APCH END, AND I APOLOGIZED FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE. THERE WAS NO FURTHER DISCUSSION OF THE MATTER.
