Narrative:
While climbing through fl 178, received an unintelligible call from ATC. Immediately asked them to say again. They said to level at FL180, and a TA sounded at that moment also. We were able to stop climb at FL183 and immediately went to FL180. Traffic passes about 900 ft above us and about 5-6 mi to our right.

Title: B767 CREW CLBING OUT FROM MADRID IS ASKED BY ATC TO IMMEDIATELY LEVEL AT FL180. THE CREW OBSERVED TFC PASS OFF THEIR R SIDE.
Narrative: WHILE CLBING THROUGH FL 178, RECEIVED AN UNINTELLIGIBLE CALL FROM ATC. IMMEDIATELY ASKED THEM TO SAY AGAIN. THEY SAID TO LEVEL AT FL180, AND A TA SOUNDED AT THAT MOMENT ALSO. WE WERE ABLE TO STOP CLB AT FL183 AND IMMEDIATELY WENT TO FL180. TFC PASSES ABOUT 900 FT ABOVE US AND ABOUT 5-6 MI TO OUR R.
