Narrative:
Location: paris. Climbing from lower altitude, we were given what we all had interpreted as FL360. The captain was PNF and was on the radios and read back FL360. We were not told anything different and continued climb to FL360. Approaching FL340, we were asked to maintain FL340, which we did. We were then asked what altitude we were cleared to, to which we replied 'FL360.' they said that our clearance limit had been FL260. I cannot say for certain that what she had said was FL260 and we misunderstood, or controller misspoke. All 3 of us heard the readback of FL360 and didn't hear any correction. Supplemental information from acn 572293: the language barrier was the significant factor involved. There was no loss of separation or further incidences. Supplemental information from acn 573274: passing through about FL230, cdg queried us as to what altitude we were cleared to. The captain said 'FL360.' they responded 'no, you were cleared to FL260.' we all wondered why was she now asking us at over 6000 ft over our altitude.

Title: A B767-300 ALTDEV ON FREQ WITH PARIS CTL AFTER AN AMOGA 9A DEP PROC FROM LFPG, FO.
Narrative: LOCATION: PARIS. CLBING FROM LOWER ALT, WE WERE GIVEN WHAT WE ALL HAD INTERPED AS FL360. THE CAPT WAS PNF AND WAS ON THE RADIOS AND READ BACK FL360. WE WERE NOT TOLD ANYTHING DIFFERENT AND CONTINUED CLB TO FL360. APCHING FL340, WE WERE ASKED TO MAINTAIN FL340, WHICH WE DID. WE WERE THEN ASKED WHAT ALT WE WERE CLRED TO, TO WHICH WE REPLIED 'FL360.' THEY SAID THAT OUR CLRNC LIMIT HAD BEEN FL260. I CANNOT SAY FOR CERTAIN THAT WHAT SHE HAD SAID WAS FL260 AND WE MISUNDERSTOOD, OR CTLR MISSPOKE. ALL 3 OF US HEARD THE READBACK OF FL360 AND DIDN'T HEAR ANY CORRECTION. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 572293: THE LANGUAGE BARRIER WAS THE SIGNIFICANT FACTOR INVOLVED. THERE WAS NO LOSS OF SEPARATION OR FURTHER INCIDENCES. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 573274: PASSING THROUGH ABOUT FL230, CDG QUERIED US AS TO WHAT ALT WE WERE CLRED TO. THE CAPT SAID 'FL360.' THEY RESPONDED 'NO, YOU WERE CLRED TO FL260.' WE ALL WONDERED WHY WAS SHE NOW ASKING US AT OVER 6000 FT OVER OUR ALT.
