Narrative:
On departure from sna, giving IOE to new captain. Captain started abrupt rotation, which I commented on. He then continued normal rotation, but did not raise nose to desired pitch after getting airborne. I pointed that out. In the meantime, we forgot to raise the gear, as we were concerned about the nose sensitive departure. When I noticed the noise and saw the gear was still down, I retracted the gear, not noticing we had accelerated above gear retract speed. We wrote it up and informed air carrier maintenance controller. Supplemental information from acn 573507: captain noted that my rate of rotation was initially excessive. While correcting pitch and executing the sna noise abatement profile, the landing gear was not raised. After reaching 3000 ft and accelerating in managed speed mode, I commented that the noise level in the cockpit was excessive. When captain realized the gear was down, he proceeded to raise it. Airspeed was 240 KTS. A maintenance write-up was made.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A320 CAPT, ON IOE, AND IOE CHK AIRMAN FO, PIC, FORGOT TO RETRACT THE LNDG GEAR UNTIL A GEAR OVERSPD OCCURRED.
Narrative: ON DEP FROM SNA, GIVING IOE TO NEW CAPT. CAPT STARTED ABRUPT ROTATION, WHICH I COMMENTED ON. HE THEN CONTINUED NORMAL ROTATION, BUT DID NOT RAISE NOSE TO DESIRED PITCH AFTER GETTING AIRBORNE. I POINTED THAT OUT. IN THE MEANTIME, WE FORGOT TO RAISE THE GEAR, AS WE WERE CONCERNED ABOUT THE NOSE SENSITIVE DEP. WHEN I NOTICED THE NOISE AND SAW THE GEAR WAS STILL DOWN, I RETRACTED THE GEAR, NOT NOTICING WE HAD ACCELERATED ABOVE GEAR RETRACT SPD. WE WROTE IT UP AND INFORMED ACR MAINT CTLR. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 573507: CAPT NOTED THAT MY RATE OF ROTATION WAS INITIALLY EXCESSIVE. WHILE CORRECTING PITCH AND EXECUTING THE SNA NOISE ABATEMENT PROFILE, THE LNDG GEAR WAS NOT RAISED. AFTER REACHING 3000 FT AND ACCELERATING IN MANAGED SPD MODE, I COMMENTED THAT THE NOISE LEVEL IN THE COCKPIT WAS EXCESSIVE. WHEN CAPT REALIZED THE GEAR WAS DOWN, HE PROCEEDED TO RAISE IT. AIRSPD WAS 240 KTS. A MAINT WRITE-UP WAS MADE.
