Narrative:
Previous flight crew wrote up first officer 'airport' button. Asked if it was ok if they deferred the item. We agreed to the airplane if it was a legal deferral. They gave us a new maintenance release with a proper deferral and placard information with MEL. We proceeded to phx without the use of #2 autoplt. After landing, we were asked to call the maintenance controller, and they told us about the error in the maintenance release.
