Narrative:
I checked in with the gate agents at lga 45 mins prior to departure time and presented my identification. I specifically asked if there was anything unusual about the flight that I should know about. They said no. About an hour and a half after takeoff, one of the flight attendant's called and reported that a man in the aft galley claimed that he was an air marshal. No one in the crew had been notified. The flight attendants checked his credentials and I confirmed with dispatch that there were in fact fed air marshals. The captain should always be notified about fed air marshals. These individuals are provided seats in first class because that is where their job is. One fed air marshal was in the aft cabin 15-20 mins. He returned to his seat when requested by the flight attendants. Should they be loitering in the aft cabin while on duty.
