Narrative:
I departed kjmr on an IFR flight plan with a filed altitude of 10000 ft, with reported tops of overcast at 5000 ft. I was cleared to 8000 ft. I started picking up moderate icing and used my deicing equipment several times through climb out prior to reaching 8000 ft. It wasn't keeping up. I could see open skies 500-700 ft above. I continued to climb, and asked ATC for 9000 ft. I needed out of the ice. I reacted to flying the aircraft prior to contacting ATC. I was concerned about my safety. I did immediately descend back to 8000 ft as requested until cleared to 9000 ft.
