Narrative:

After departing mdw, we were being vectored by departure. Departure then asked us to check our heading assigned. We then realized that there was a difference in the captain's and first officer's HSI heading indications. After looking at the wet compass, reading, we realized that the captain's HSI was incorrect. We got another vector from departure, adjusted the headings and got everything going in the right direction. There were no TCASII TA's or RA's. We did not catch the heading difference during performance of the taxi checklist, during taxi out for takeoff.
