Narrative:
I took off from ttn for a local flight. In the past it had been my habit to check WX and NOTAMS for all cross country flts. However, I did not for local flts close to the airport. A quiz of many pilot friends of mine revealed the same practice. I flew a circular route east as far as new brunswick, nj close to the 3000 ft maximum altitude ring of ny class B airspace, approximately 32 SM from the center. I was only 2500 ft altitude, safely below the wedding cake. Four days ago this would have been ok. However unknown to me, not having checked NOTAMS, the ny airspace was changed to an ADIZ and I was in violation. A us customs service blackhawk followed me to ttn and interviewed me and checked all my papers and identification which were in order. I was informed this was a warning only. Corrective action recommended: in matters of such extreme importance more effort should be made to disseminate information to pilots thru control tower, ATIS and local news. 2 days later on 03/mon/03 it was broadcast on ny tv stations, almost one week after the change.

Title: M20P PLT WAS INTERCEPTED BY A US CUSTOMS BLACKHAWK HELI FOR PENETRATION OF NY ADIZ AIRSPACE.
Narrative: I TOOK OFF FROM TTN FOR A LCL FLT. IN THE PAST IT HAD BEEN MY HABIT TO CHK WX AND NOTAMS FOR ALL CROSS COUNTRY FLTS. HOWEVER, I DID NOT FOR LCL FLTS CLOSE TO THE ARPT. A QUIZ OF MANY PLT FRIENDS OF MINE REVEALED THE SAME PRACTICE. I FLEW A CIRCULAR RTE E AS FAR AS NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ CLOSE TO THE 3000 FT MAX ALT RING OF NY CLASS B AIRSPACE, APPROX 32 SM FROM THE CTR. A US CUSTOMS SERVICE BLACKHAWK FOLLOWED ME TO TTN AND INTERVIEWED ME AND CHKED ALL MY PAPERS AND ID WHICH WERE IN ORDER. I WAS INFORMED THIS WAS A WARNING ONLY.
