Narrative:
Was instructed by ATC ground to taxi to runway 24, hold short of runway 19. Read back hold short instructions. Upon reaching runway 19, confused it for runway 24 and crossed without permission. There was no traffic on final for runway 19 and no conflict with other aircraft was involved. ATC reminded us of the hold short clearance, and then said it was no problem this time, continue to runway 24 and contact the tower. I believe this incident occurred because I believed that the runway in question was runway 24 and not runway 19. I also believe that my being the captain on the flight influenced my copilot, who had less experience, to take my word for it instead of questioning my instructions to continue. This situation can be avoided in the future by maintaining situational awareness, instead of assuming the same routine when at a familiar airport. The airport diagram was out and referred to but my mind was already set on which runway was which (complacency).
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: LJ31 CROSSED RWY 19 AT TEB WITHOUT CLRNC.
Narrative: WAS INSTRUCTED BY ATC GND TO TAXI TO RWY 24, HOLD SHORT OF RWY 19. READ BACK HOLD SHORT INSTRUCTIONS. UPON REACHING RWY 19, CONFUSED IT FOR RWY 24 AND CROSSED WITHOUT PERMISSION. THERE WAS NO TFC ON FINAL FOR RWY 19 AND NO CONFLICT WITH OTHER ACFT WAS INVOLVED. ATC REMINDED US OF THE HOLD SHORT CLRNC, AND THEN SAID IT WAS NO PROB THIS TIME, CONTINUE TO RWY 24 AND CONTACT THE TWR. I BELIEVE THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED BECAUSE I BELIEVED THAT THE RWY IN QUESTION WAS RWY 24 AND NOT RWY 19. I ALSO BELIEVE THAT MY BEING THE CAPT ON THE FLT INFLUENCED MY COPLT, WHO HAD LESS EXPERIENCE, TO TAKE MY WORD FOR IT INSTEAD OF QUESTIONING MY INSTRUCTIONS TO CONTINUE. THIS SIT CAN BE AVOIDED IN THE FUTURE BY MAINTAINING SITUATIONAL AWARENESS, INSTEAD OF ASSUMING THE SAME ROUTINE WHEN AT A FAMILIAR ARPT. THE ARPT DIAGRAM WAS OUT AND REFERRED TO BUT MY MIND WAS ALREADY SET ON WHICH RWY WAS WHICH (COMPLACENCY).
