Narrative:
The captain and I waived our contractual duty time limits of 14.5 hours duty time to bring flight from dca to ord. Due to unknown circumstances to the flight crew, we were required to hold on the ground at ord for 1 hour prior to getting our gate. This extended delay which was brought to the attention of dispatch, caused us to exceed FAA duty day limits while holding for our gate.
