Narrative:
I had just leveled off at 16000 ft on an assigned s-westerly heading from ZNY. Center gave me a right turn to a westerly heading and a frequency change. During the turn I encountered severe turbulence, that knocked my glasses and headset to the floor. Numerous objects were displaced throughout the cabin. The aircraft lost about 600 ft before I recovered my glasses, headset and control of the aircraft. I requested, and was given, FL180, and later FL200, before the aircraft exited the icing and turbulent conditions.
