Narrative:

Crew briefed the kennedy 9 departure, canarsie profile. First officer briefed the departure, but did not see the turn to 176 degrees after cri. Our clearance was the departure, then direct gayle. The first officer flew the departure to cri, then turned direct to gayle. As the first officer was turning to gayle, ATC gave us a left turn to 60 degrees. He realized we turned wrong and asked us our heading (300 degrees). We turned back to 60 degrees. This all took place over cri. A better briefing would have avoided this.
