Narrative:
I am an IFR student. I was under the hood and partial panel. The instructor was watching the GPS and giving me vectors. The GPS shows no ADIZ ring. He said he made an embarrassing mistake believing the outer ring around the ny bravo was the ADIZ ring. We have been flying this area for months. As sorry as both of us are we are, totally embarrassed by our mistake. After filing with phl approach for a practice approach, they informed us that we copy phone number to call. We will practice maneuvers in another location.
