Narrative:

After clearing runway 7R at mke, we were cleared via taxiway T to taxiway east, then on taxiway east to hold short of runway 13. After holding short of runway 13, we were then cleared to cross runway 13, which we did. Next we received instructions to hold short of runway 7L. I was still looking out the side window toward the end of runway 13 making sure it was clear, I did not, for whatever reason, ie, distraction, hear the instructions to hold short of runway 7L. The copilot did acknowledge to ground, but didn't get a confirmation from me that I understood the call. We had already entered the runway when he caught it and spoke up. I continued across, thinking that was the safest action, as stopping on the runway would make no sense. The big issue here is that we have had some problems with the side tone 'feedback' not being loud enough for any of the coplts xmissions or 'readbacks' to be heard by the captain's side. This particular copilot has a very soft voice anyway, which doesn't help in this environment. I can't state firmly enough the importance of being able to hear the radio operators 'readback.' under normal operating conditions, all cockpit crews rely on 'feedback' from the 'readback,' more than they realize. We caused an mu ii on 1/4 mi final to go around. We have ordered 2 new audio boxes and have talked about the situational awareness at length. I should have stopped before crossing the second runway (runway 7L) and asked the copilot if we were cleared across. These runways are only a couple of hundred ft apart. The confirmation from the radio (plane to tower) readback is priceless. Supplemental information from acn 579859: ATC told us to cross runway 13, and then a few seconds later, ATC told us to hold short of runway 7L, I repeated instructions to ATC. I thought captain heard it and I understood instructions to ATC. I looked down for the logbook and the next thing I heard was ATC saying hold short of runway 7L. ATC then said to call tower for possible pilot deviation. Our aircraft is only 6 months old. There is no side tone on radio, captain couldn't hear me reply to ATC through headset. I shouldn't have looked down for the logbook, we were quite close to our hangar, and I didn't want to hold up our well-to-do passenger, as I wrote down the numbers. I should have confirmed the captain was going to hold short, I figured since he had just done so for runway 13, he would do the same for runway 7L.

Title: FALCON 900EX FLT CREW HAS A RWY INCURSION AT MKE.

Narrative: AFTER CLRING RWY 7R AT MKE, WE WERE CLRED VIA TXWY T TO TXWY E, THEN ON TXWY E TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 13. AFTER HOLDING SHORT OF RWY 13, WE WERE THEN CLRED TO CROSS RWY 13, WHICH WE DID. NEXT WE RECEIVED INSTRUCTIONS TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 7L. I WAS STILL LOOKING OUT THE SIDE WINDOW TOWARD THE END OF RWY 13 MAKING SURE IT WAS CLR, I DID NOT, FOR WHATEVER REASON, IE, DISTR, HEAR THE INSTRUCTIONS TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 7L. THE COPLT DID ACKNOWLEDGE TO GND, BUT DIDN'T GET A CONFIRMATION FROM ME THAT I UNDERSTOOD THE CALL. WE HAD ALREADY ENTERED THE RWY WHEN HE CAUGHT IT AND SPOKE UP. I CONTINUED ACROSS, THINKING THAT WAS THE SAFEST ACTION, AS STOPPING ON THE RWY WOULD MAKE NO SENSE. THE BIG ISSUE HERE IS THAT WE HAVE HAD SOME PROBS WITH THE SIDE TONE 'FEEDBACK' NOT BEING LOUD ENOUGH FOR ANY OF THE COPLTS XMISSIONS OR 'READBACKS' TO BE HEARD BY THE CAPT'S SIDE. THIS PARTICULAR COPLT HAS A VERY SOFT VOICE ANYWAY, WHICH DOESN'T HELP IN THIS ENVIRONMENT. WE CAUSED AN MU II ON 1/4 MI FINAL TO GAR. WE HAVE ORDERED 2 NEW AUDIO BOXES AND HAVE TALKED ABOUT THE SITUATIONAL AWARENESS AT LENGTH. I SHOULD HAVE STOPPED BEFORE XING THE SECOND RWY (RWY 7L) AND ASKED THE COPLT IF WE WERE CLRED ACROSS. THESE RWYS ARE ONLY A COUPLE OF HUNDRED FT APART. THE CONFIRMATION FROM THE RADIO (PLANE TO TWR) READBACK IS PRICELESS. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 579859: ATC TOLD US TO CROSS RWY 13, AND THEN A FEW SECONDS LATER, ATC TOLD US TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 7L, I REPEATED INSTRUCTIONS TO ATC. I THOUGHT CAPT HEARD IT AND I UNDERSTOOD INSTRUCTIONS TO ATC. I LOOKED DOWN FOR THE LOGBOOK AND THE NEXT THING I HEARD WAS ATC SAYING HOLD SHORT OF RWY 7L. ATC THEN SAID TO CALL TWR FOR POSSIBLE PLTDEV. OUR ACFT IS ONLY 6 MONTHS OLD. THERE IS NO SIDE TONE ON RADIO, CAPT COULDN'T HEAR ME REPLY TO ATC THROUGH HEADSET. I SHOULDN'T HAVE LOOKED DOWN FOR THE LOGBOOK, WE WERE QUITE CLOSE TO OUR HANGAR, AND I DIDN'T WANT TO HOLD UP OUR WELL-TO-DO PAX, AS I WROTE DOWN THE NUMBERS. I SHOULD HAVE CONFIRMED THE CAPT WAS GOING TO HOLD SHORT, I FIGURED SINCE HE HAD JUST DONE SO FOR RWY 13, HE WOULD DO THE SAME FOR RWY 7L.
