Narrative:
I took off from sna airport to go to hemet, ca, and pick up a friend. I had a heading of 80 degrees and reached 5500 ft for this flight. Over saddleback (santiago peak), there was very strong turbulence. The information I had from a fellow pilot, was that there was a new runway at hemet. Though I had been there many times, my last time was over 1 yr ago. I have been in southern california and los angeles, flying since 1955. My heading was on course until I saw the runway. I landed! I had dropped 3000 ft and landed at march AFB, thinking it was the new long runway. The military police took me to base operations for the reports. After that, they let me go.
