Narrative:
Departed bed VFR. Notified on departure to tower direction to lwm airport departure east. Requested frequency change from bed, listened to lwm ATIS and called lwm tower (10 mi out) for clearance to enter class D airspace. Did not get any response for several calls. Called bed tower indicating that I was calling lwm tower and got no response. In the meantime, was orbiting outside of class D airspace waiting for bed tower to get back to me. Bed tower called me back and gave me 2 frequencys to try. After a couple of tries, I established contact and received clearance to enter pattern right or left downwind runway 28. When in pattern downwind, again was unable to communication with tower. Called bed to request that they call lwm to get me signal clearance to land. Only then did bed tower realize they were giving the wrong frequency -- they gave me norwood tower frequency. I moved out of the pattern, called lwn tower on correct frequency, and received clearance. Chain of events: I had entered wrong frequency to lwm tower. Bed misunderstood and gave me wrong frequency, ie, norwood frequency. Norwood gave clearance to enter class D airspace. Receiving clearance, thinking it was lwm, entered the class D airspace. Corrective action: strongly recommend 1) clearly identing a message 'norwood tower frequency is XXX.xx. 2) verify communication by recipient and acknowledge.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AIRSPACE INCURSION AS A G-AA5 CHEETAH PVT PLT ENTERS THE CLASS D AIRSPACE OF LWN AFTER ASKING FOR FREQ FROM TWR OPERATOR AT BED, MA.
Narrative: DEPARTED BED VFR. NOTIFIED ON DEP TO TWR DIRECTION TO LWM ARPT DEP E. REQUESTED FREQ CHANGE FROM BED, LISTENED TO LWM ATIS AND CALLED LWM TWR (10 MI OUT) FOR CLRNC TO ENTER CLASS D AIRSPACE. DID NOT GET ANY RESPONSE FOR SEVERAL CALLS. CALLED BED TWR INDICATING THAT I WAS CALLING LWM TWR AND GOT NO RESPONSE. IN THE MEANTIME, WAS ORBITING OUTSIDE OF CLASS D AIRSPACE WAITING FOR BED TWR TO GET BACK TO ME. BED TWR CALLED ME BACK AND GAVE ME 2 FREQS TO TRY. AFTER A COUPLE OF TRIES, I ESTABLISHED CONTACT AND RECEIVED CLRNC TO ENTER PATTERN R OR L DOWNWIND RWY 28. WHEN IN PATTERN DOWNWIND, AGAIN WAS UNABLE TO COM WITH TWR. CALLED BED TO REQUEST THAT THEY CALL LWM TO GET ME SIGNAL CLRNC TO LAND. ONLY THEN DID BED TWR REALIZE THEY WERE GIVING THE WRONG FREQ -- THEY GAVE ME NORWOOD TWR FREQ. I MOVED OUT OF THE PATTERN, CALLED LWN TWR ON CORRECT FREQ, AND RECEIVED CLRNC. CHAIN OF EVENTS: I HAD ENTERED WRONG FREQ TO LWM TWR. BED MISUNDERSTOOD AND GAVE ME WRONG FREQ, IE, NORWOOD FREQ. NORWOOD GAVE CLRNC TO ENTER CLASS D AIRSPACE. RECEIVING CLRNC, THINKING IT WAS LWM, ENTERED THE CLASS D AIRSPACE. CORRECTIVE ACTION: STRONGLY RECOMMEND 1) CLRLY IDENTING A MESSAGE 'NORWOOD TWR FREQ IS XXX.XX. 2) VERIFY COM BY RECIPIENT AND ACKNOWLEDGE.
