Narrative:
During troubleshooting of a GPS system, I needed a quiet atmosphere in the electrical equipment area to listen for the actuation of a relay. I removed the cannon plug of the equipment-cooling fan to lessen the noise. I inadvertently forgot to re-secure the cannon plug to the fan. I completed the maintenance of the GPS system and cleared the logbook. As soon as the aircraft departed the gate I realized my mistake and notified our maintenance control of the situation. That the cannon plug was left off and would most likely be a discrepancy in the logbook at the next stop. It was written up in the logbook and was cleared by maintenance with no other defects noted. The fact that I did not list the removal of the cannon plug in the logbook with the other corrective actions prevented me from catching the mistake before the logbook was cleared. Documenting all maintenance in the logbook and using the maintenance manuals as checks for properly completed maintenance can prevent a future incident.

Title: A B727 WAS DISPATCHED IN NON COMPLIANCE WITH THE EQUIP COOLING FAN DISCONNECTED FOR TROUBLESHOOTING AND NOT RECONNECTED.
Narrative: DURING TROUBLESHOOTING OF A GPS SYS, I NEEDED A QUIET ATMOSPHERE IN THE ELECTRICAL EQUIP AREA TO LISTEN FOR THE ACTUATION OF A RELAY. I REMOVED THE CANNON PLUG OF THE EQUIP-COOLING FAN TO LESSEN THE NOISE. I INADVERTENTLY FORGOT TO RE-SECURE THE CANNON PLUG TO THE FAN. I COMPLETED THE MAINT OF THE GPS SYS AND CLRED THE LOGBOOK. AS SOON AS THE ACFT DEPARTED THE GATE I REALIZED MY MISTAKE AND NOTIFIED OUR MAINT CTL OF THE SIT. THAT THE CANNON PLUG WAS LEFT OFF AND WOULD MOST LIKELY BE A DISCREPANCY IN THE LOGBOOK AT THE NEXT STOP. IT WAS WRITTEN UP IN THE LOGBOOK AND WAS CLRED BY MAINT WITH NO OTHER DEFECTS NOTED. THE FACT THAT I DID NOT LIST THE REMOVAL OF THE CANNON PLUG IN THE LOGBOOK WITH THE OTHER CORRECTIVE ACTIONS PREVENTED ME FROM CATCHING THE MISTAKE BEFORE THE LOGBOOK WAS CLRED. DOCUMENTING ALL MAINT IN THE LOGBOOK AND USING THE MAINT MANUALS AS CHKS FOR PROPERLY COMPLETED MAINT CAN PREVENT A FUTURE INCIDENT.
